Achievements In Games: Good or Bad

The first game I can remember that had so called "achievements" was World of Warcraft. Though I think they definitely weren't the first to have that system. Nowadays most of the games have incorporated the achievements if not all. Certainly seeing a flashy notice that you just have been awarded by points makes you feel good, but what did you actually accomplish, should you even call that an achievement in the first place?

Example from World of Warcraft. These achievements just undermine the word achievement. Seeing as it is easy as hell to do all these things why even great an achievement for such a deed.

Another example from Team Fortress 2. Just random achievements and the only reason to do these is to get more points and you gain nothing in return. Waste of time.

The biggest flaw is that they incorporate all easily doable things as achievements, when there only should be the truly hard to do achievements that require skill and determination. Certainly luck is a factor as well but you shouldn't make an achievement because you got an item that had a drop rate 1%.

I like to play games, there are not many who don't. When I was young, I could play a game and finish it and with it comes a certain emotion of satisfaction. Now with all the games that have achievements in them and when I reach in the end it looks that I didn't get all of the achievements done and then there are also difficulty levels like advanced and hardcore is locked. The difficulty settings is one thing I don't like about newer games. When I finish a game on easy and some of my friends did it on hard. Now you wished you did it on hard.

With all these achievements you really can't even finish a game properly because you know you didn't kill that one boss with fists only or didn't do it on hard difficulty.

Super Mario Bros. 3 Never Happened

Game begins with curtain opening, shadows on backdrop.

Blocks bolted to background; more shadows on skyine.

Exit stage right end of set.

Platforms hanging from roof, sticking out through slots in backdrop running via hidden machines behind set.

Super Mario Bros. 3 never happened. It was all just a stage show. A play. Mario was never once in any real danger. You were merely the audience.

Minecraft Castle

Minecraft Citadel, what my friend and I built, it took a lot of time. So I hope you like it.

PAYDAY: The Heist CO-OP

Remember, the movie Heat? well this is almost it except with clown masks. The amount of bullets you fire is unreal. Obviously it's not very fun to play solo but with friends it sure deserves to be played through. Graphics are mediocre so even older PC can definately run it. Unfortunately it only has 6 missions which are about 20 minutes long maximum. Though the gameplay seems very repetetive, every now and then you will just have to face the swat assault and just keep on moving. There is also difficulty levels, what make the game a lot harder but the main problem is that you will run out of ammo.
Anyway get some friends and do some heists.

Saints Row: The Third

People find sex and violence entertaining. Saints Row: The Third gives the people what they want and drops us into an open world adult theme park where we can treat ourselves to delightful acts of bloodshed and perversion. It doesn't take itself too seriously and only asks that you don't, either.

Even better in Co-op mode.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time series.

The three games everyone should play and enjoy. For me the biggest reason I like this trilogy is because of the story, which basically tells a tale of an unnamed prince, Vizier and Princess Farah. Gameplay was secondary for me, all I cared about was the story, I even used cheats to get the story moving faster. Gameplay was too repetetive at times. In the First PoP Sands of Time there was a very troublesome way of killing the monsters but you will eventually overcome it.

Every now and then the game would have some awesome cinematics, which made me want to progress the game even more to see if there is more.

The Dahaka! adrenaline filled moments escorted with epic soundtrack. Prince of Persia The Warrior Within had the best soundtracks out of the 3 in my opinion. You can't beat metal.

My favourite soundtrack:

So yeah The Warrior Within was my favourite game, only downside is that it has two endings and by that I mean one is wrong and the other one is right. Unfortunately I didn't know that and end up getting the wrong ending, what blew me off my tracks for minute or so until I watched the right ending on youtube.

An unforgettable story. Best you get these games and enjoy.

My House Minecraft.

There is a big improvement comparing, what I had before. Probably will not build it any higher or wider. Now I only need to start killing enderman and obtain some pearly things or something so I could find the boss dragon or whatever. So yeah thats that.

Why I will not play SWTOR

I'm not a big fan of Star Wars, though I liked the movies nonetheless. Star Wars The Old Republic has released three very epic cinematics, which really made me want to play the game but seeing the actual gameplay I was turned off by the graphic style they used.

Certainly game doesnt have to have realistic graphics or style, look at Minecraft for example. Even World of Warcraft had a cartoony look but the whole game was based of Warcraft 3, so it was to be expected. Incase of SWTOR they could have gone a bit more like their cinematics or Star Wars The Force Unleashed style.

Well it's only my personal opinion and it does not change the fact that overall the game will probably be pretty successful. Now it only has to overcome small obstacles, stability issues and providing content for the players.

Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne

Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos and the expansion pack The Frozen Throne.

It starts with a young prince Arthas, who is a young paladin under Uther. In a world full of orcs, undead, nightelves and unknown powers. The story is about Arthas, who is consumed by power and betrays his human race but there are several characters in their respective sides like an orc shaman named Thrall and Illidan Stormspirit a nightelf. Even if you can't be bothered with playing the game there is always cheat codes because the only thing interesting is the lore. Certainly now the Warcraft lore is passed on in an MMO called World of Warcraft and you can learn more in wiki.

Guild Wars 2

I have been playing MMORPGs since I was a kid, so I have a pretty clear understanding what a MMO game should look like and feel. From what I've seen Guild Wars 2 might be that game, bear in mind I have not played the first one. Reason being that the game wasn't open world and at that time it kinda threw me off but the GW2 has improved a lot in several aspects yet retaining everything good that the first game had.

Reasons to buy Guild Wars 2:

1. No monthly fee (you need to buy the game once), as an old WoW player I know what it feels like when you have to pay for it every month and specially if you are a student with no stable income.

2. No designated healers or tanks. Every class has it's own way to heal and avoiding enemy's attacks, so basically if someone in your party dies all the time then he isn't playing the game properly. That doesn't mean others can't heal or ressurect fellow party members.

3. Production quality. When I stopped playing games with monthly subscription I always tried several free to play games and often I would quit because the controls were awkward and the game overall felt stiff. Incase of GW2 it is probably safe to say it will be good.

Overall Guild Wars 2 will probably be a very popular game, meaning it's so good that most of the people will be drawed into it.

Guild Wars 2 is supposedly released in the early 2012.
